"The Big "E"; No More Oil

"In this Nation a prophetic sound shall come, and as a result of it, you will not need the oil of the Middle East. There is a new energy that is coming forth. The prophet knows it as the Big "E" but knows nothing else. A new form of energy is coming forth. America is pioneering it, and it shall take you from a trillion dollar deficit to no deficit whatsoever within a six-year period says the Spirit of God. And the Middle East shall say you still need oil. But America shall say no longer from you, for O Israel, O Israel what is hidden shall be revealed says the Lord. America rejoice for this is your day, says the Lord.

    Trucker's Life

I went to get an oil change last week (Friday, July 6th of 2007) at Tire Plus in Oakdale, MN during my July 4th-Holday Week Vacation. There were about 3 men just sitting in the waiting area and some guy started chatting. I somehow jumped in the conversation to give my point of view and started talking about the "hot topic" of immigration. After giving my encouragement to him during his pessimistic view of his personal job affect, he opened up to me about his trucking life. He (found out his name was Steve when he was called up that his car is done) told me about the pressures of being a trucker before his present-day job of 20+ years (printing comapny in St. Louis Park). Steve shared about the illlegal stuff he had to do to just "survive" (e.g. carry over the limit loads, which varies in each state; carry a bat in case of getting attacked; driving over the speed or take detours just to make their destination in time after getting "bumped" from their schedule due to a traffic stop or whatever; etc...) as a trucker.

  • DRIVER'S AND CAR LICENSES:, morrismn.info

  • " Stevenson's Driver's License Bureau is located at 600 Atlantic Ave. It is in the 6th St side entrance of the brick building at the corner of 6th St and Atlantic Ave. (589-1755). You can buy your Minnesota license plates there. You can also get a copy of the rules of the road to study for your driver's license test.
An examiner gives and scores the written driver's license exam the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursday of each month from 10-11:30am at the Eagles Club, 7 E. 8th St. Use the side door.
Once you pass the written test, take your receipt and your old license from another state to Stevenson's Driver's License Bureau, pay your fees and have your photo taken. Another small town perk - - a fast and friendly license branch!
For those who need a behind-the-wheel test, they are scheduled by calling (320) 762-7808 (long distance number) during business hours on a Monday or Tuesday. While that is the only time you can call, the actual behind-the-wheel exams can be taken on other days.
A short personal note on the Stevenson's Driver's License Bureau:
Where I used to live in Indiana the local city-run license bureau lived up to every bad stereotype of license bureaus; they were slow, inefficient and rude. In contrast I always leave this local branch absolutely thrilled at how fast, efficient and polite they are. It takes them about 60 seconds to process new stickers for your license plate, and I just got a new drivers license from them in about 4 minutes. They know exactly what they are doing and how to do it efficiently. "

    Accidents

  • Mechanic crushed by truck axle rescued by angels By Mark Ellis Senior Correspondent, ASSIST News Service Wednesday, June 6, 2012

  • "WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WISCONSIN (ANS) -- He was underneath a Peterbilt logging truck’s engine when the jack gave way, and 10,000 pounds crushed his body to within an inch of the cement floor. In his near-fatal experience he watched two angels tend to his body as he miraculously came back from the edge of death.
I traveled around Wisconsin doing on-site repairs on diesel engines,” says Bruce Van Natta, 42. On a mild fall day, he had fixed the coolant leak on the mammoth logging truck, put his tools away and was ready to leave, when the truck’s driver asked him to look at one more thing.
“There’s an oil seep in the front of the engine somewhere,” the man said. Bruce got on the creeper on the floor and slid under the huge chrome bumper, feet first. The truck was still running.
“Why don’t you jump inside and shut it off,” Bruce called out. With the front wheel removed and the truck jacked up, there was barely enough room for Bruce to slip under the axle that ran from wheel to wheel.
Bruce noticed the driver hadn’t positioned any safety equipment to support the jack – no blocking or jack stands. But Bruce had done the same thing many times himself to save time, so he wasn’t concerned.
But as the other man hopped up in the truck’s cab to shut off the engine, he watched the huge truck shift and rock slightly. “Out of the peripheral vision in my left eye I saw movement,” Bruce says. “I turned my head just in time to see the jack wiggle around and shoot out like a rocket.”
The leading edge under the massive engine – the truck’s axle – came down on Jack’s body like a blunt guillotine, with a crushing blow across his stomach nearly cutting him in half. It created the loudest noise Bruce had ever heard.
“Lord help me!” Bruce cried out twice. The force of the trauma on his stomach caused blood to shoot into his throat suddenly; he coughed and spit out a large blob. He bled internally from major arteries severed in five places.
Bruce looked at the left side of his body and saw he was only one inch thick. “I was thinner than the thickness of my spine,” he recalls. Because the axle went up at a slight angle, the axle crushed him to about two inches on the right side.
“Call 911!” Bruce screamed. The driver went into shock when he saw Bruce’s condition. After he placed the emergency call, he grabbed the jack to hoist the truck off Bruce’s body, but the only place he could find to attach it was one of the springs near the wheel – a precarious and unstable position.
As the engine lifted above his crushed stomach, Bruce thought it would be impossible to look this way and still be alive. It was somewhat surreal; he thought his flattened body resembled a cartoon character.
I’m probably going to die, he thought...this will probably kill me.
“Get me out from under the truck,” Bruce yelled, fearful the truck might fall again. But the other man refused to touch him. With three shattered vertebrae, it was not a good idea to move his body.
Bruce reached back and grabbed the chrome bumper himself, then used all the strength he could muster. “I pulled as hard as I could and got my head out,” he "

Immediately after that exertion, Bruce passed out. He believes he died at that moment or had a near-death experience. “I can say I died because when the medical people got there I didn’t have a pulse.”
Then something very strange happened. “My spirit left my body and went up in the roof of the garage. My spirit was up there looking down, at perfect peace.”
The other man knelt over Bruce’s body, crying, running his fingers through Bruce’s hair, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” he said repeatedly.
Then looking down from above, Bruce witnessed something even more startling. “I realized there was a huge angel on either side of my body,” he says. He estimates the angels were about eight feet tall, very muscular, dressed in white robes.

  • 10 Easy Ways to Improve Gas Mileage, Diesel Fuel Economy, Increase Horsepower, and Cut Your Service Costs in Half, mpgperformance.com

  • "10 Easy Ways to Improve Gas Mileage, Diesel Fuel Economy, Increase Horsepower, and Cut Your Service Costs in Half
An Easy Program with Several Free Steps
How to Improve Gas Mileage and Increase Diesel Fuel Economy
If you want to save money on gas and get more power, you have come to the right place. The engineers at MPG Performance have combined advanced performance products and sound fuel efficiency methods into a complete program that improves gas mileage, diesel fuel economy, increases horsepower, and cuts your service costs in half.
It starts with racing. The racing industry has spent hundreds of millions of dollars in research and development to get the most horsepower out of every drop of fuel. They have also dramatically increased efficiency in every vehicle system to increase horsepower and make the cars faster. Your car, truck or SUV has the same parts and systems as the race cars that can be made more efficient to improve gas mileage and performance.
How Much Fuel and Power is Your Vehicle Wasting?
Only about 15% of the energy from the fuel you put in your tank gets used to move your car down the road. The rest of the energy is lost to engine and driveline inefficiencies. - U.S. Department of Energy
    1. High Performance Air filterHigh Flow Air Filters use Military Nanofiber Technology
This in one of the easiest fuel efficiency and performance modifications you can do and usually takes less that 10 minutes. Standard air filters can become clogged and restrict airflow after only a few thousand miles and reduce your gas mileage and power by as much as 10%. High performance air filters have less restriction to air flow which increases fuel efficiency and horsepower. There are many on the market that do this but most have a serious flaw: they are poor air filters and allow a lot of dirt into your engine. Our AMSOIL air filters use military technology to increase air flow and provide unsurpassed filtration.
    2. Fuel System Cleaners
Your engine needs clean fuel injectors, valves, and combustion chambers to produce maximum fuel economy and performance. But burning gasoline and diesel fuel leaves deposits that clog fuel injectors, fuel filters, and emission systems. In addition, combustion deposits build up on valves, pistons and ports. This results in less efficient combustion, reduced horsepower, and wasted energy. Regular cleaning or your fuel injection system and combustion chambers is a cheap, easy way to increases gas mileage and performance.
High Performance Synthetic Motor Oil Increases Horsepower and Gas Mileage3. The Best Synthetic Motor Oil
Another way that your engine wastes energy is by the friction between all of those moving metal parts in your engine that are spinning and sliding at incredible speeds. Conventional motor oils break down quickly, get thicker, and make it harder for your engine to move it's pistons, valves, cams, and gears.
AMSOIL, the leader in automotive synthetic lubrication, produced the world's first API qualified synthetic motor oil in 1972. They have more experience than anyone else.
AMSOIL engineers their synthetic oils to produce more power, get better gas mileage, and last longer that any other motor oil period.
Many AMSOIL synthetic motor oils last up to 25,000 miles which will save you a lot of money on oil changes. For maximum performance, better gas mileage, and saving you money, this is the best synthetic motor oil you can get.
    4. Correct Tire Pressure
This is one of easiest and free ways to improve gas mileage yet is often the most neglected maintenance item. Correct tire pressure is critical for good gas mileage, vehicle handling, and safety. Keeping your tires properly inflated will improve your gas mileage by reducing rolling resistance. But what is the right pressure to use and what is the only time you should check it?
NGK Iridium Spark Plugs and Wires Deliver Maximum Performance and Fuel Economy
    5. High Performance Spark Plugs
Power and efficiency in gasoline engines depends on consistently strong sparks. The intense heat of combustion degrades the performance of standard spark plugs causing reduced power and fuel economy. They will still spark after 10,000 miles, but it will be less intense and cause incomplete fuel combustion which wastes energy.
NGK is the world leader in spark plugs and spark plug wires and makes some of the highest performance ones available, covering nearly every type of vehicle. NGK has been producing world class products since 1936 and has dominated the world market.
    6. Fuel Efficient DrivingDriving in Heavy Traffic cuts you fuel economy in half. This step only requires a little thought and your right foot to save you a lot of money. And it is free. How you drive has a huge effect on your gas mileage and there are some very simple ways to make big improvements. 7-8. Reducing Drive Train Energy Losses Your transmission and differentials are another place where energy is wasted through heat created by friction. Iron and steel gears rubbing together under high loads consumes power and fuel. By installing the best low friction synthetic oils you can cut these losses significantly and dramatically reduce wear at the same time. These oils also last longer -up to 100,000 miles in cars and trucks. This means lower maintenance costs. The sections on Synthetic ATF, Manual Transmission Oil and Synthetic Gear Oil show you what works best. 9. Auto Repair and Tune Up You probably know this one but the miles go by so quickly when you are busy. To keep your vehicle fuel efficient, safe, and running at its best, you need to give it regular maintenance. Many engine parts loose efficiency over time as they wear and get dirty. In addition, modern engines have a lot of complex emission controls and sensors that can go bad and reduce your gas mileage and performance. If your check engine light is on, then you need to take it in. No one enjoys paying for auto repairs, but you will pay for it at the gas station if you don't get it repaired. So take care of any problems and get your brakes and tires checked while its there. Good brakes and tires are very important safety items that can help you avoid an accident. 10. Free Ways to Improve Gas MileageTop Tier Fuel is the Best. Here are 7 more free and easy ways to increase your gas mileage and save money. You will be surprised at how simple some of these are. Your Actual Performance and Gas Mileage The key to achieving maximum performance and gas mileage is to add up many small improvements without neglecting any major ones. How Much Can You Improve Performance and Gas Mileage? Most of these steps can increase your gas mileage and/or horsepower by two to five percent, and some up to 10% (there is no gas pill, magnet, or magic device that will produce large mileage increases). You may not notice a single small increase, but you will feel it when many small improvements are added together. Example: 3% + 2% + 4% +3% + 5% + 2% + 3% + 4% = 26%! And that included only eight of the ten steps as your car may not need them all.
    Good for the Environment
This gas saving program also helps the environment. It will reduce your vehicle's exhaust emissions and pollution which can help fight global warming.
Please remember when checking your gas mileage that it can vary substantially from one tank to the next. Your gas mileage is affected by traffic flow, your driving habits, your driving speed, the mechanical conditional of your vehicle, the load you are carrying, tire pressures, air temperature, altitude, the weather, and the quality of the fuel in your tank.
To obtain good MPG values check your gas mileage by averaging the results from three to five tanks of gas. Your mileage results will vary for each vehicle and driver combination (a lead footed driver can quickly reduce the number or miles that you will get from a tank of gas). ..

At random times - once a week when I am coming to a stop or slowing down in traffic (when it's below 1 rpm) the car will just stall. It starts up o.k., and then will be fine the rest of the day. I've had it to my mechanic 4 times and to Toyota dealer once. No one can figure out what's wrong. Quite scary since I lose all power, brakes and all when it stalls!! Help!!

  • Richfield Man Called A Hero After Miracle Rescue, Jul 15, 2010 10:26 pm US/Central wcco.com

  • "(WCCO) "All of the sudden my boss Shawn turns to me and says, 'oh my gosh, look at that plume of smoke from that vehicle ahead,'" said Weismann.
A Minnesota man risked his own life to save a complete stranger. Jason Weismann of Richfield and his friend were driving along Interstate 80 near Des Moines, Iowa when they came upon an accident. At first it appeared to be a fiery, semi-crash. But they soon found out there was more there than met the eye.
"All of the sudden my boss Shawn turns to me and says, 'oh my gosh, look at that plume of smoke from that vehicle ahead,'" said Weismann.
The plume of smoke was coming from a semi-truck that had been hauling a trailer full of motorcycles. But as Weismann got out of his vehicle and took a closer look, he noticed something else.
"Hidden behind this -- sandwiched in -- is this car. The thing that's messing me up is you could see maybe two inches inside the cab," said Weismann.
But that is all Weismann needed to see. While others ran away from the thick smoke and raging flames coming from the semi, Jason ran towards the vehicle hidden behind it. And when he looked inside- what he saw almost made his heart stop.
"All you can see is flames and smoke and this poor lady screaming, 'please help me get out of here. Please don't leave me," said Weismann.
The woman inside was four months pregnant and parts of her body were on fire. So, Weismann reached through a small opening in the back. Then he grabbed her arms, said a prayer, and pleaded to the woman not to give up.
"I just said to myself, if this was my fiancé or if this was my daughter, I have to get her out of there. I have to get her out," said Weismann.
After a long struggle, he finally got the woman out. Seconds later, the motorcycles on the trailer began to explode.
"Had everything not been just perfect. Had the timing been a little bit late, had the cabin been a little more crunched, had the window not been open just enough, she would have burned to death," said Weismann.
Weismann said he got a chance to talk with the woman on the phone Thursday and she thanked him and everyone else that helped her.
She is in intensive care with severe burns at a University of Iowa hospital, but both she and the baby are expected to be OK. "

  • ".. Transmission fluid is required to lubricate and cool the transmission components. If you want your transmission to last for a long time, then you are going to have to change the fluid and filter at regular intervals. Old, worn-out fluid doesn't work as well, and clogged filters are much less efficient. New transmission fluid is bright red. Old transmission fluid is a much darker red--almost black.
Automatic transmission fluid and filters should be changed every 15,000 to 30,000 miles (or every 2 years) as part of your basic car maintenance. It's important to change both the filter and the fluid at each interval. Don't wait until the transmission begins to slip. By then it may be too late and serious damage may have already occurred.
    1. Preparation: Go buy the correct transmission fluid at an auto supply store. Your owner's manual should indicate the correct type of fluid for your car . ..

  • Wheel Bearing Replacement Cost, buzzle.com

  • If average wheel bearing replacement cost is what you are looking for, this article will give you an estimate. Along the way, you will also know about the causes, that may lead to wheel bearing replacement and the precautions one could take to prevent it.
"How Does a Car Wheel Bearing Work? Wheel bearings are car parts that bear the brunt of friction between the wheel axle and the wheel, so that, the wheel rotation is smooth. Wheels rotate at a very rapid pace and if there wasn't for a wheel bearing, it would be a very bumpy ride indeed! The wheel bearings are a buffer between a metal to metal contact surface, which prolongs the life of the axle and the wheel. Friction and heat are the bane of moving machine parts in contact with each other. A large part of design effort goes in to reducing this damaging friction through lubrication and buffers like wheel bearings. The wheel bearing is a slotted disk with ball bearings placed inside, which roll and enable the movement of the wheel while reducing friction. It is absolutely essential, that you keep the wheel bearing greased and repacked regularly. Wheel bearings are like the bone cushioning between our knee joints, they keep the movement smooth. The greasing job could be done once every two years or after a 23,000 mile running of the vehicle. Since, there are two pair of wheels (two front and two rear), this task is quadrupled. If you hear a roaring or screeching sound when the car wheels are rolling, it's time to get the wheel bearings checked out! Do not ignore wheel bearing replacement as it may lead to major car repairs later. ...

    -Callipers
  • How Brake Calipers Work by Christopher Lampton auto.howstuffworks.com

  • "...In a disc-braking system the car's wheels are attached to metal discs, or rotors, that spin along with the wheels. The job of the caliper is to slow the car's wheels by creating friction with the rotors.
The brake caliper fits over the rotor like a clamp. Inside each caliper is a pair of metal plates bonded with friction material -- these are called brake pads. The outboard brake pads are on the outside of the rotors (toward the curb) and the inboard brake pads on the inside (toward the vehicle). When you step on the brake, brake fluid from the master cylinder creates hydraulic pressure on one or more pistons in the brake caliper, forcing the pads against the rotor. The brake pads have high-friction surfaces and serve to slow the rotor down or even bring it to a complete halt. When the rotor slows or stops, so does the wheel, because they're attached to one another. ..

The internal parts are made up of a iron core called the strator. This core is surrounded by thousands of copper wires that are electrified by a rotor spinning inside these copper wires. This creates a magnetic field and AC current. Since vehicles need a DC current, there needs to be a part that converts AC to DC. That part is called a diode pack and it allows the current to flow in one direction. From there, the current is sent to a voltage regulator, which regulates how much voltage is sent to the battery. This is where the power comes from to keep our battery charged. ..

The severity of the scratch will determine whether you can remove it yourself will have to bring it to professionals. In any case, if you want to get rid of your car's scratches, here are some tips you can try out:
    # Distinguish whether it's a scratch or a mark. You don't need any fancy equipment to distinguish one from the other. A fingernail drawn to the surface at a 90-degree angle to the defect will immediately tell you whether it's gouged into the paint or sitting on top of it. If it's just a mark, then an aerosol tar or an adhesive remover will take care of it with no problems at all. Stubborn marks can often be removed with lacquer thinner or a rage dipped in acetone . If it's a scratch, then you will have to treat it using the following tips for scratches.
    # Paint over the scratch. If the scratch is just small enough, you can do the painting yourself and save money. First, wash the area with mild laundry detergent so you can remove any wax or coatings that may otherwise affect the paint you will apply. Then, carefully sand along the scratch using fine-grained sandpaper. The goal is to sand down to the level of the scratch without sanding through the next layer. Then, using a soft brush, blow away all the dust from the sanding.
Use masking tape or paper to isolate the scratch. Leave about an inch or so of working room...

" How To Repair Damaged Toyota Paint With Toyota Touch Up Paint By following these Toyota paint repair directions, you can make your Toyota paint shine again! For more detailed instructions, including how to use Toyota spray paint, see our Directions for How To Apply Touch Up Paint. 1. Prepare Your Toyota for Touch Up Paint Make sure the temperature is over 50 degrees F, then wash the damaged paint on your Toyota with soap and water. Use a wax and grease remover on the area. Placing masking tape around your scratched Toyota paint will help protect the surrounding auto paint. 2. Repair Rusted Areas Before Applying Toyota Touch Up Paint Remove all traces of rust from your Toyota with 220 grit sandpaper or a wire brush. Then use rust converter and apply it to the rusted area of your Toyota. 3. Apply Primer Before Painting Your Toyota If you have an unpainted surface on your Toyota, like bare metal or plastic, apply primer before Toyota touch up paint! Apply several thin coats of primer to the Toyota paint you are going to repair. Only apply a small amount of primer to your Toyota at time. Let the primer dry, overnight if possible, before applying the Toyota touch up paint. Once dry, lightly sand the primed Toyota paint area with #220 grit sandpaper followed by #600 wet and dry sandpaper. 4. How to Apply Toyota Touch Up Paint You are now ready to apply Toyota touch up paint to your car. Apply several thin coats of Toyota touch up paint to build up the damaged paint area to the same depth as the surrounding surface. Let the Toyota paint dry for ten to twenty minutes between coats. After the final coat, let the paint dry thoroughly before applying a clearcoat layer. Usually if you let the Toyota paint dry overnight, it will be dry. If temperatures are below 70 degrees F, allow additional time for the Toyota touch up paint to dry. 5. Protect Repaired Toyota Paint with Clearcoat Make sure the Toyota touch up paint you applied earlier is dry. Apply several thin coats of clearcoat over the touched up Toyota paint, drying for ten to twenty minutes between each coat. Let the clearcoat dry overnight, or longer if temperatures are less than 70 degrees F. 6. Use Rubbing Compound to Make Your Toyota Paint Shine Rubbing compound will help your Toyota touch up paint repair become smooth and shiny like the original paint. Let the clearcoat dry for at least three days, then use rubbing compound on your Toyota. Apply rubbing compound to your Toyota paint with a clean, soft cloth like an old tee shirt, but not wood products like paper towels. Place a small quantity of rubbing compound on the area where you applied Toyota touch up paint. Use circular strokes while applying even pressure to the surface. Buff with a clean cloth to a high gloss. For best Toyota touch up paint results, let your Toyota's finish dry for thirty days and then apply a good quality automotive wax. "

Modern roundabouts, when compared to traffic lights and stop signs, have less delays, higher capacity, safer for cars and pedestrians(up to 90-100% reduction in fatal accidents), no Vegas style lighting from traffic lights all over the place, allows for a much smoother traffic flow where stopping rarely happens because it eliminates the hurry up and wait system (traffic lights promote aggressive driving), much more beautiful to look at, and allow for narrower roads to hold higher volumes of traffic because the intersections are now much more efficient.
